24 August 2006 — Federal Way (WA): Weyerhaeuser is to build a new Oregon sawmill while closing another.
The construction of the new mill is part of the company’s strategy to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of its lumber operations.
The new build will be located at the existing Bauman lumber mill location on Fairview Road and is expected to employ 125 people and to produce lumber for local and West Coast markets.
Construction will commence during Q4 and is expected to begin operations in Q1 2008.
Weyerhaeuser will permanently close its Weirich Drive mill in Lebanon, Oregon, tomorrow, affecting around 60 staff.
