Weyerhaeuser may sell troubled mill

24 November 2005 – Federal Way (WA): Weyerhaeuser has said it would consider an offer for the purchase of its pulp mill in Cosmopolis, but warned Washington Governor Christine Gregoire and state legislators not to get their hopes up.

Following the announcement of the mills planned closure, Gregoire and state officials asked the forest products firm to contemplate a sale and committed $50,000 to study the potential market for the mill.

In a letter to Gregoire, Weyerhaeuser COO Rich Hanson warned of significant challenges in running the mill, including high maintenance, energy, chemical and other costs.
