Weyerhaeuser fined for oil spill

 

30 October 2006 — Federal Way (WA): Weyerhaeuser has been fined $11,000 by the State Department of Ecology for a diesel oil spill that occurred in Cowlitz County in October 2004.

 

675 gallons of oil spilled into a wetland area when company employees tried to put a derailed train back on the tracks at Weyerhaeuser’s Green Mountain mill.

 

The company also gave more than $15,000 to the Cowlitz Conservation District and over $3,000 to the Department of Ecology on top of the fine.
