Weyerhaeuser has announced a series of plant closures in which hundreds of workers will lose their jobs.
The paper manufacturer will permanently close a mill in Saskatchewan and shut down a paper machine in Ontario.
It also announced it will close or sell plants in eight US states and two other Canadian provinces. The series of cutbacks follow a significant drop in Q3 profit.
In a statement, chairman/president/CEO Steve Rogel said: "We recognise that this news and its timing is hard on our people, but market conditions leave us no choice as we make urgent changes to improve the competitiveness and lagging financial performance of this business."
