5 October 2004 – Federal Way (WA): Weyerhaeuser has closed its Forest Learning Center amid fears that Mount St Helens could be set to erupt again.
The family-oriented visitor centre is located in the 1980 blast zone of the volcano and the paper maker said it was better to be safe than sorry.
"Safety is our highest priority at Weyerhaeuser," said Montye Male, Weyerhaeuser’s VP of corporate communications. "In this situation we would rather err on the side of caution."
The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
