31 March 2005 – Mexico City (MEX): Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex) looks set to take the country’s rival retailers by storm, as it considers new markets in 200 cities and towns.

More than $700 million is to be spent this year on new stores and remodelling existing units, according to the company’s CEO Eduardo Soloranzo, who took the helm in February.

Soloranzo said his priority was to "continue profitable growth" through ongoing expansion, the promotion of efficiency through streamlining operations and by augmenting stores to local consumer preferences.
