Walgreens offers free refills tomorrow

11 September 2007 — Deerfield (IL): Walgreens is offering free printer cartridge refills across 3,000 of its US drugstores tomorrow.

Customers can take one empty black or colour cartridge along to a Walgreens photo counter and have it filled at no cost.

The company launched its printer cartridge refill service in certain stores last summer and expanded the rollout earlier this year. The venture has proved successful as Walgreens only charges about half the cost of an original cartridge ($10 for black ink and $15 for colour) for the refill service.

John Sugrue, photofinishing general merchandise manager, said: "We hope even more people will decide to try the service for free on Wednesday. Customers appreciate having a more convenient, affordable way to get back to their printing tasks without sacrificing quality. For small business owners, students or anyone who prints a lot of documents or web pages, the savings can add up fast. And people feel good about keeping printer cartridges out of landfills."
