Wal-Mart’s Indian partner to invest $2.5 billion

19 February 2007 — New Delhi (IND): Bharti Retail plans to invest up to $2.5 billion by 2015 in upgrading its retail outlets in partnership with Wal-Mart.

Bharti is planning pan-Indian operations and looking at roughly 10 million sq ft of retail space for new hypermarkets and supermarkets across the country.

 

The company expects to employ a workforce of up to 60,000 people once the investment is complete.
