Wal-Mart’s Asda to axe 1,400 jobs

6 July 2005 – Leeds (UK): Asda has announced that it will cut 200 management jobs and up to 1,200 store positions in response to market-share losses to Tesco.

President and CEO Andy Bond has said that due to a slowdown in sales, Asda is planning to "bring back proven talent" to its executive team, restructure its headquarters and to invest more in front-line customer service.
