Wal-Mart has revealed plans to open 270-280 supercentres in the next fiscal year, as part of a global drive to add over 60 million sq ft of total retail space, an increase of more than 8 per cent.
Out of the new units the company is to open, approximately 215 will be relocated or expanded, including some 160 super centres to be converted from smaller discount stores.
Wal-Mart also plans to construct five distribution centres, three of which will be used for general merchandise, providing over 5 million sq ft of additional distribution space.
