Wal-Mart expects 4.5 per cent growth

4 July 2005 – Bentonville (AR): Wal-Mart has estimated a 4.5 per cent rise in June comp-store sales, beating its expectations of growth between 2 and 4 per cent.

If confirmed, the increase will be the company’s biggest in 13 months. Wal-Mart attributes the growth to sales of general merchandise having outpaced demand for groceries.

Final June results are expected on Thursday.
