UPM to build renewable energy plant

 

5 December 2006 — Irvine (UK): UPM is to build a renewable power plant at its Caledonian mill in Irvine, Scotland at a cost of £59 million ($116.6 million).

 

The new boiler will utilise a 350,000 ton combination of biomass and site derived residues as its primary fuel.

 

The plant, expected to be operational in Q1 2009, will reduce the company’s annual carbon emissions by 75,000 tons.

 

UPM has reduced its production related fossil CO² emissions by 25 percent over the last ten years.
