Tesco sales rise in competitive market

25 November 2005 – Cheshunt (UK): UK retail giant Tesco has reported a 13.9 per cent rise in Q3 sales, reflecting its slowest growth for two years.

The company said its sales growth was largely driven by a push into sales of non-food items. Comp sales rose by 5.5 per cent, falling short of analysts’ expectations for the quarter.

Tesco has cut prices and diversified into non-food areas in a bid to stay ahead of its rivals in an increasingly competitive supermarket sector.
