Tesco opens first own name store in Beijing

26 January 2007 — Beijing (CHN): Tesco has today opened its first store trading under its own name in Beijing.

The company has opened the store in a joint venture with Chinese firm Legou.

Wal-Mart and Carrefour have already established their presence in Beijing and provide Tesco with stiff competition.

Analysts say that Tesco’s long-term success depends on the performance of its overseas ventures.
