7 June 2006 — Delhi (IND): Tesco CEO Terry Leahy has reiterated the company’s interest in India as a possible market.

Speaking to the Financial Times website, Leahy said that current rules prevent foreign investment in retail in India, but the company will keep the situation "under review".

The retailer recently announced a £250 million ($464 million) a year move into the US market to develop the successful Tesco Express format on the West Coast.

Tesco currently has a total of 2,467 stores in 13 countries.
