4 August 2005 – Cheshunt (UK): Tesco is launching an aggressive back-to-school (BTS) campaign that it predicts will increase sales of stationery for the period by a third. The company is sending 4 million BTS brochures to UK homes.
The BTS market is estimated to be worth over £1 billion and the annual sales rush is one of the busiest times of the year for retailers. Sales of PCs and laptops peak during August at Tesco, with the retailer selling twice as many than during the Christmas period.
Marketing director Tim Mason said: "By lowering the prices again this year, parents who shop at Tesco will be able to breathe a sigh of relief as back-to-school time draws near."
Tesco has increased the number of stores that will carry the range to 548 across the UK and has doubled the amount of sales space in stores dedicated to it.
