21 January 2005 – Miramichi (CAN): UPM Miramichi has been granted a court injunction related to the current union strike at its New Brunswick plant, which has forced the closure of two paper machines.
The injunction sets limitations for picketing at the facility, which over recent weeks has impacted general public, disrupted traffic and as a result, persuaded the company to apply for the injunction.
In accepting the right of strikers to picket, however, the injunction allows a maximum of six picketers at any one time at the three primary gates to the facility.
The strike, in which union workers are protesting the terms of their new contract with the plant, is now entering its sixth week.
