Staples report reveals gift-giving rut

5 December 2006 — Framingham (MA): Staples’ State of Holiday Gift-Giving Survey, conducted by Synovate, found that 42 percent of respondents are planning to buy between one and five gifts for co-workers this year.

32 percent of those surveyed are thinking of selecting the same office gift as bought in previous years, and more than half (57 percent) agreed that office gift-giving has become boring or expected.

In an attempt to infuse excitement into holiday gift-giving, Staples has launched the Department of Unexpected Gifts, which makes it "easy and fun" to select the right present for all those hard-to-buy-for colleagues.
