9 November 2004 – Framingham (MA): Staples private label inkjet cartridges were found to perform equally to their brand name alternatives at a lower price, according to a test conducted at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The 22-step tests found that in important criteria such as text, graphics, photo quality and costs-per-page, the new Staples brand cartridges (made to work with most Epson and Canon printers as well as remanufactured cartridges for HP models) were as good as their brand name counterparts.

Jevin Eagle, SVP of Staples brand group, said: "Our customers can save up to 20 per cent on annual office supply purchases using Staples brands, while getting national brand quality."

Jim Forrest, managing editor of Lyra Research’s Hard Copy Supplies Journal, added: "Staples is meeting the need for high quality alternatives to more costly original manufacturer printer supplies."
