Staples cancels ads on Sinclair news

6 January 2005 – Framingham (MA): Staples is to discontinue advertising alongside news programmes on Sinclair-owned television stations, the company has announced, following customer complaints over the media company’s right-wing undertones.

The decision to stop advertising from 10 January was made after a liberal media watchdog started encouraging people to make complaints to advertisers such as Staples which were advertising during news programming.

Company spokesman Paul Capelli said: "Staples is an apolitical company without any organisational support for any political party."

Staples has advertised with Sinclair for more than 12 years.
