Samas to close German plant

2 November 2004 – Baarn (NL): Samas Groep has closed its plant in Freiburg, southern Germany, cutting 140 jobs.

The plant’s production will now be transferred to Trebbin, in the north east of Germany.

The Dutch office furniture supplier has been struggling of late, amid an ongoing weak office furniture climate. It posted a net loss of $43.22 million and a sharp drop in sales for the fiscal year of 2003/2004, ending 31 March 2004.

The company, which cut 280 jobs in 2003, has said that the restructuring is not yet complete and that it expects to cut more than 100 jobs over coming months and close one of its three steelworks.
