The Phoenix Report – a recent survey of the UK office products independent dealer channel – has recently been published by OPI and Martin Wilde Associates (MWA), and has found many UK dealers in good health and confident mood.

As many as 57% of the UK dealer respondents reported that their sales had increased in 2015 (36% claimed that these had grown by more than 6%), while only 26% of respondents reported a sales decrease, with half of these (13%) claiming that the decline had been 6% or less.

The main reasons given for increasing sales in 2015 were sales of adjacent categories to existing customers (62%) and sales to new customers (60%). As many as 43% also cited increased sales of services to existing customers.

Overall, UK dealers are very positive about 2016: two thirds (68%) of these respondents expect their sales to increase in 2016, with 39% predicting that revenues would grow by more than 6%. Conversely, only 12% of respondents believe that their sales will decrease in 2016, with more than half of these (7%) forecasting that the decline will be 6% or less. Interestingly, the survey was carried out several weeks after the Brexit vote.
