Hygiene and health company Essity is investing in a new global R&D centre in the north of France.

The facility – in France’s Alsace region – will focus on branded tissue products in both the consumer and professional hygiene markets. It is located near an existing R&D centre in Kunheim where company researchers have filed 25 patents in recent years, including for the Tork SmartOne dispenser.

“Essity aims to create a larger, more efficient centre equipped to address future challenges,” the company stated.

In addition to France, Essity has R&D centres in Mexico, Sweden, Germany and the US. In 2023, the manufacturer invested around $155 million (approximately 1.2% of net sales) in research and development.
