Online furniture giant Wayfair is set to open its first large-format retail outlet.

The $12 billion reseller – which operates a specialist B2B unit called Wayfair Pro – will hold the grand opening of its inaugural big box on 23 May. The store – with a floor space of 150,000 sq ft (15,000 sq m) – is located in the Chicago (IL) suburb of Wilmette.

According to Wayfair’s PR, the facility will be a “one-stop shop for all things home, including furniture, home decor, housewares and home improvement products, for any style space or budget”. It will also have an onsite restaurant called The Porch.

Wayfair has been testing the retail waters with some smaller format stores, but has yet to commit to a full-blown national roll-out. It’s something to keep an eye on regarding its home office assortment, a segment that IKEA has enjoyed much success in during the past few years.
