There was a real buzz on the first day of EPIC 2015, the joint convention of US dealer groups Independent Stationers and TriMega.
Following the excellent welcome party on Tuesday evening sponsored by Smead, Wednesday was a packed day of meetings and seminars.
One big talking point, of course, was the ‘will it or won’t it happen’ status of the Staples/Office Depot merger and opinions were certainly split on that. However, there is a feeling that, whatever happens, the situation represents a great opportunity for independents.
Some dealers revealed that they are already winning contracts and having conversations with potential clients due to the uncertainty surrounding the Staples/Depot deal.
There was also a lot of interest in the EPIC Business Essentials initiative, the joint venture between TriMega and Independent Stationers in the national accounts space. Certainly, it is a great example of the independent community being able to work together, something that it has been difficult to achieve over the years.
The day ended with a packed out party, sponsored by Essendant, at the amazing Rose.Rabibt.Lie club at The Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas.
Thursday kicks off with a General Session, and this is followed by an expo before the event closes in the evening.
