City of Hope is gearing up for its customary annual tour in mid-June. But this time, it’s going virtual.
The Duarte, California-based medical research centre typically and traditionally holds its campus tour and National Business Products Industry (NBPI) Hall of Fame induction in February. In the name of safeguarding patients, staff as well as visitors, coronavirus put a stop to those plans this year.
However, in a couple of weeks’ time, on 15 June, City of Hope will be hosting a Virtual Tour of its facilities. The event will kick off with a welcome from the centre’s CEO Robert Stone and feature presentations from City of Hope researchers Dr John Zaia, Dr Saul Priceman and Dr Debbie Thurmond. Another guest will be Greg Gibson, this year’s NBPI Spirit of Life Honouree and VP and General Manager, North American Papers, at International Paper.
Matt Dodd, City of Hope Executive Director of Corporate Philanthropy, commented: “We’re incredibly saddened that the traditional tour couldn’t go ahead this year. It’s got to be virtual and it’s going to be a great event.
“The one benefit of going virtual is that there are no limitations on attendance. We are really encouraging not only our normal, every-year supporters to join, but are widening the net and asking them to invite their business partners – vendors, resellers, distributors – to attend too. This is an opportunity to broaden awareness of City of Hope and what we do, and of the NBPI’s fundraising campaign.”
Ahead of the tour and starting on 1 June 2021, City of Hope is also ramping up its Personal Giving Campaign, urging supporters to help reach the NBPI’s $3 million, 5-year personal fundraising goal that culminates this year.
For more on this year’s Sustain Hope campaign, look out for the OPI Talk podcast later on this week where OPI’s Heike Dieckmann speaks to both Gibson and Dodd.
