Amazon is enticing parents to start their back-to-school (BTS) shopping early this year during next week’s global Amazon Prime Day event.

Prime Day – which is actually over two days – is taking place this year on 21 and 22 June. To coincide with the event, Amazon has launched its Back To School and Off To College storefronts in the US and Canada. If history is anything to go by, it will shortly launch something similar in key European markets.

BTS is just one of a host of promotions and initiatives the e-tailer is touting in a press release. However, while there is set to be pent-up demand pointing to a strong BTS this year, Prime Day might just be a few weeks too early to take real advantage. The trend in recent years has been to leave BTS shopping until the last minute. Given that, plus a desire to spend on leisure and entertainment as countries emerge from COVID restrictions, spending on school and college supplies might not be top of mind at the end of June.
