OPI Editor Felicity Francis says we're only seeing the start of how technology will impact the workplace.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our reader survey last month. We had a great response and you have given us some excellent feedback about how you would like to see OPI develop in the future.

Some of the responses gave particular food for thought. For example, the survey suggests that about 90% of you own a smartphone, 63% own a tablet and a further 14% plan to buy a tablet this year – only about 2% have no plans to buy either item. We have seen the number of users that visit opi.net from a mobile device steadily increase each year, and these survey results highlight that we are only going to see this rise further. We are currently in the process of improving our online and app experience, so watch this space.

Of course, we’re all aware of the impact that mobile technology is having, but I believe we’re only just seeing the start of how it will change the way we work. For example, I’m intrigued by Google Glass. As a fashion conscious individual (!) not wishing to look like Cyclops from the X Men, I’m not sure I’ll be the first in the queue to buy a pair, but the technology is fascinating; not only will a computer be portable, as it is today, but it will become a part of how we see the world, linked to every action that we make. Even if you haven’t got to grips with mobile commerce yet, take a leap forward and imagine your customers buying office products this way. That’s a whole new type of user experience to understand.

Technology aside, if you didn’t have a chance to take the survey but have ideas about how we can improve any part of what we do at OPI, get in touch!
