3 July 2006 — Boston (VA): O’Sullivan industries has announced the closure of its South Boston, Virginia, manufacturing and distribution facility by the end of the year.
The furniture manufacturer said the closure was the result of a continuing strategy focused on improving production capacity and productivity. President and CEO Rick Walters told Monday Morning Quarterback that the move was "not a reflection on the workforce or management team in South Boston" but there was an "immediate need to improve capacity utilisation and optimise company performance".
The factory employs 200 people and O’Sullivan said it plans to add approximately 150 jobs to its Lamar facility over the next 12 months as a result of the consolidation.
