Office Depot celebrates 20 years



10 October 2006 — Delray Beach (FL): Office Depot is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a range of activities including the ringing of the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.


The company opened its first store in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, on 9 October 1986 and has since grown into a $15 billion, Fortune 150 company with operations in 36 countries with 50,000 associates worldwide.


Chairman and CEO Steve Odland said: "As we celebrate this landmark occasion, we are clearly focussed on profitability growing our business by expanding our geographic reach, introducing innovative customer solutions and building a team-orientated, high performance culture. These initiatives will keep Office Depot front and centre in the global marketplace throughout the next 20 years."
