20 April 2005 – Birmingham (UK): Nick Oates, managing director of Europa has announced that he will be leaving the business at the end of June, following a decision to close the warehouse and restructure the company to focus on purchasing.
This has been prompted by the recent announcements that Integra, Nemo and United would be moving their logistics to Antalis and of the resignation of Advantia from Europa.
Nick Oates said: "I have had an eventful and enjoyable six years at Europa, which would only have been possible with the support of an excellent and committed team dedicated to working on behalf of all of our dealers.
"I would like to thank all of our dealers who have supported Europa and helped the business to prosper. When I joined Europa, the future of the independent dealer was predicted to be bleak. The reality has been very different. Dealers have prospered and Europa has played its part by improving their purchasing terms. Additionally, this has benefited our key suppliers with both increased volumes and lower operating costs."
Hugh Sear, chairman of Europa, said: "Nick has been invaluable to us in helping to drive the growth and success of our business and as a result the independent sector is stronger than ever. Europa is now entering a new phase and we expect our partnership with Antalis to further assist in driving down costs for the independents. The board publicly would like to thank Nick for all his work and wish him every success in his future career."
