19 June 2007 — Port Washington (NY): The NPD Group, a provider of consumer and retail information, has launched its new office supplies superstore retail tracking service.
The point-of-sale service covering the office superstore channel is the "first, and only, service to monitor sales from all three major office superstore retailers – Staples, Office Depot and Office Max."
According to the company: "Clients can monitor trends within the channel across 130 categories and 300 product features. With more than three years of historical data available, clients will be able to assess unit, dollar, and average selling price performance at the category, brand, product feature, and SKU level."
Perry James has been named director of Office Supplies and will lead this line of business for NPD. He has been with NPD for 12 years working in the company’s fashion and home businesses.
He said: "Now the office supply industry can clearly measure how products and brands specific to this channel are performing. This detailed information will help the industry, both retailers and manufacturers, plan business strategies, enhance business development, monitor competitors, and enhance marketing and sales efforts."
