MPA highlights UK struggles

8 December 2004 – London (UK): MPA International has published its latest study of the UK office products market, highlighting many of the challenges the industry currently faces.

According to the report, the UK OP market grew just 1.8 per cent last year to reach £4.2 billion ($8.6 billion) at manufacturer’s selling price. Increasing distributor power, own-label penetration and manufacturing overcapacity hit the value of many product sectors.

As a result, the office furniture channel saw a dramatic decline in value in 2003, while most other sectors struggled to achieve any significant growth. EOS did continue to grow, but not at previous levels.

Focusing on size and structure of the market in 2003, the research also provides comparative data for 2002 and looks forward to 2008.
