7 November 2005 – Tokyo (JPN): Canon president Fujio Mitarai will become chairman of Japan’s most powerful business lobbying group, Nippon Keidanren, succeeding Toyota Motor chairman Hiroshi Okuda in May next year, the group has confirmed.
Mitarai’s appointment had been largely expected following recent speculation in the Japanese press that he was being considered as Okuda’s replacement.
