‘Max pays $9.8m to settle false claims case

20 May 2005 – Itasca (IL): OfficeMax has agreed to pay $9.8 million to settle claims that it violated US trade regulations by selling the US government products made in countries that don’t have proper trade agreements, the Justice Department has announced.

The retailer issued a statement saying it had cooperated with the Justice Department investigation and was settling "to avoid contentious litigation and to put these issues behind us".
