Japanese companies to buy Brazilian IP unit

28 November 2006 — Amapa (BRA): Nippon Paper Group and trading company Marubeni have agreed to buy Amcel, a forestry and wood chip company in northern Brazil from International Paper.

Nippon Paper and Marubeni hope the deal will secure stable pulp and wood chip supplies in the face of growing demand for paper on the global market.

 

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
