Industry veteran Andy Hirst leaves Viking

1 August 2007 — Leicester (UK): Andy Hirst, category manger for furniture, seating, janitorial and catering, has left Viking Direct and Office Depot after a 17-year career with the company.

Hirst told OPI: "I have taken the decision to leave the business to seek out new challenges. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent with the company and enjoyed meeting some great people along the way across Europe, many of whom I have no doubt I will continue to remain in contact with."

In a joint statement, Viking director Richard Carvell and sales director Paul Dennehy, said: "Andy joined Viking in 1990 during the company’s first year of operating in the UK. His first role was as merchandising assistant and during his 17 years with the company he progressed through various assistant and management positions. Andy has spent the last six years in the senior management role of category manager. He has mentored many assistants throughout the years who have themselves progressed to senior roles within the business.

"Andy has been involved, instigated and driven numerous key projects within the merchandising function and has been a great asset to the organisation. He has made many friends throughout the business and will be missed for his entrepreneurial drive and likeability."
