Hurd snubs calls to spin off printer division

Following much debate within the industry, HP CEO Mark Hurd has told the Financial Times that the company has no plans to spin off its highly profitable printer business, despite analysts’ persistent calls for such a move.
"A spin off creates a lot more cost," Hurd told the newspaper. "You’d have to be sure you’d get a huge increase in valuation and I am not sure the maths adds up. It is counter-intuitive that the company is more valuable broken up. That would be true only if we fail to execute."
Hurd added that he wants to ensure that HP’s core printer division has the opportunities to grow more vigorously within the HP group.
