23 June 2006 – Palo Alto (CA): Hewlett-Packard (HP) has announced that it will eliminate 15,300 jobs by the end of fiscal 2006 as part of its ongoing restructuring plan.

President/CEO Mark Hurd said that the activities carried out by the company’s global operations organisation will be absorbed directly into its three business groups —Imaging and Printing Group, Personal Systems Group and Technology Solutions Group.

The move, said Hurd, is expected to "improve accountability and executive focus through a simpler reporting structure with fewer management layers".
