5 June 2006 — Greenville (SC): Greenville Office Supply (GOS) has acquired the office supply businesses of Young Office Supply.
GOS has acquired the office, safety and beverage supply businesses of the family-run company, making GOS the largest independently owned office supply firm in South Carolina.
"My son Thomas and I have decided to put forth a major focus on our contract furniture supply and Steelcase dealership," said Tommy Young, president of Young Office. "We’d like to thank four generations of Young Office customers and all the employees, past and present, and we look forward to serving the needs of upstate business."
GOS said all 31 Young Office employees affected by the deal will be offered the opportunity to remain with the company.
Founded in 1953, Young Office Supply recently divided its office supply and office furniture businesses into separate units. This latest deal means Young Office will retain both its Greenville and Spartanburg sites for its enlarging furniture business.
GOS can now add a beverage service and safety supplies to its product range which includes office supplies, computer supplies, commercial printing and advertising specialities. "This business combination is a win-win for all office products customers in our markets. As upstate companies continue to grow and flourish, we will be here as their full office products partner to help them succeed," said GOS president, Charles Scales.
