IDC has reported that global sales of computer servers rose 6.9 per cent in Q2 to reach $11.5 billion.

Measured by revenue IBM retained its position as the top server vendor with total sales increasing 11.7 per cent year-on-year to reach $3.7 billion. Hewlett-Packard (HP) took second place with sales of $3.1 billion during the quarter. However, HP led the market during the quarter when measured by units shipped.

IDC analyst Matt Eastwood said: "The pattern in spending during Q2 demonstrates the bifurcation of the server marketplace, with growth at both the high and low ends of the computing spectrum."
