FTC rap for CompUSA

15 March 2005 – Dallas (TX): CompUSA has reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), requiring it to pay for rebates that a supplier failed to deliver to customers.

The FTC said the message it was sending out to retailers was clear. "If you promise to provide a rebate of your own, you must honour that promise in a timely manner. Even if you are advertising someone else’s rebate programme, you may not turn a blind eye when that company fails to honour its rebates."

The FTC revealed that thousands of consumers will be eligible to receive rebates, ranging from $15 to $100.
