Dell in biggest electrical product recall ever

15 August 2006 — Round Rock (TX): Dell has recalled 4.1 million laptop batteries due to fire risks in what the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has called the biggest ever recall of electrical products.

Batteries sold with Dell Latitude, Inspiron, XPS and Precision Mobile Workstation notebooks, despatched between 1 April 2004 and 18 July 2006, are potentially susceptible to overheating.

Affected notebooks should only be used with AC mains power until the batteries can be safely replaced. The company will replace faulty batteries free of charge.
