Dell and partners to hold battery summit

25 August 2006 — San Jose (CA): Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and Apple are to hold a technical summit next month in San Jose, California, as the first step in establishing manufacturing standards for lithium-ion batteries for handheld and portable electronic devices.

The companies belong to the OEM Critical Components Committees of the IPC-Assocation Connecting Electronics Industries.

The Committee aims to identify current standards related to lithium-ion batteries with the goal of standardizing design, performance and safety requirements.

Dell initiated plans for the summit up to two months before it recalled 4.1 million Sony-made lithium-ion laptop batteries.
