IDC expects PC shipments to rise 14.2 per cent in 2004. While consumer PC shipment growth is expected to slow towards the end of 2004, commercial growth is surging.
IDC said it expects shipments to reach 176.5 million in 2004 after commercial shipments grew 17.2 per cent in Q2, the highest since mid 1999.
While Q2 growth was strong in western Europe and the rest of the world, the US missed forecasts and slipped into single digits.
VP of client computing Roger Kay said: "Overall market maturity in the US and uncertainty in both political and economic spheres has led us to revise our forecast modestly downward."
