China beats US to top ICT exporter spot

China surpassed the US as the world’s largest exporter of laptop computers, mobile phones and other information and communications technology (ICT) devices in 2004, according to the OECD.
The independent economic forum which is funded by 30 countries from around the world said that China exported $180 billion worth of ICT goods, compared with US exports of $149 billion.
OECD officials also said that China’s success was likely to continue in 2005, but data would take many months to collect.
