Canon to build new plant in Japan

Canon has revealed that it plans to build a $733 million factory in south-western Japan, said to be one of the largest in the company’s history. Construction of the Oita Prefecture plant, which is expected to produce 100 million inkjet cartridges in 2008, will begin during the first half of 2006.

Japanese business paper Nihon Keizai said that production in the cartridge and ink plant would start in January 2007 and require a total investment of 80 billion yen ($732.8 million).
