Long-serving ACCO Brands executive Denny Chandler left the company suddenly at the end of August. He had been with ACCO since 1993 and took up the post of COO of the Office Products division in August 2005 after the merger with GBC. He was given a new global marketing role in April 2008 following a management reshuffle. ACCO told OPI that Chandler’s role will be carried out by Boris Elisman, President, Office Products Group. Respected former OP executive Norm Wesley has retired as Chairman of Fortune Brands. Wesley steps down after more than two decades with the company and nearly nine as Chairman, though he will remain on the company’s board. He joined ACCO World in 1984 and was elected to the post of CEO in January 1987, just a few months before the company was acquired by Fortune Brands (then known as American Brands). In 1999, Wesley was honouree of the City of Hope’s fund raising activities and recipient of the Spirit of Life award. (IL)


Rick Toppin, a former President of Corporate Express Canada and most recently President of Corporate Express’ central region, has joined wholesaler SP Richards as EVP of Sales and Marketing. In this role, Toppin will head up SPR’s sales and marketing activities as well as operating oversight for SPR Canada. (GA)


Consumer electronics products and accessories distributor DBL Distributing has promoted Senior Buyer Leslie Reinhardt to the post of Director of Product Replenishment. She takes over from Lee Sherman who was only named to the post in May 2008. Reinhardt’s post of Senior Buyer has been filled by former Circuit City product manager Josh Finkelstein. (AZ)


Ricoh US has appointed Martin Brodigan as its new President and CEO. Brodigan – a former CEO of Ricoh Canada and most recently Ricoh America’s CFO – takes over from Nori Goto who is returning to take up a post at the company’s headquarters in Japan. Dennis Dispenziere steps into the Ricoh Americas CFO role. (NJ)


Philip Schoonover, the under fire Chairman and CEO of retailer Circuit City has resigned. Schoonover’s departure comes just over a month after the company named turnaround specialist Jim Marcum to the post of Vice Chairman. Marcum was named to Circuit City’s board in May following a proxy challenge from activist investor Mark Wattles, for whom Marcum also worked at Ultimate Electronics and Hollywood Video. Marcum is named interim President and CEO while former tobacco executive Allen King will become the new Chairman. (VA)


Online office supplier has announced that experienced former Corporate Express sales executive Dave Capano has joined the company as Senior VP of Sales and Marketing. Capano spent 23 years in sales and management positions within business-to-business markets including 14 years with Corporate Express (NY)




Esselte has provided OPI with details of recent changes in its EU management team. Chris Exner, currently Regional VP Western Region and European Accounts will take on a new role as VP Sales and Business Development. He will report directly to Nigel Gunn, Senior VP Sales.


Exner’s former post is being split in two with Jaap Van Selm, currently VP Benelux, the new Regional VP Western Region and Paul Gouka, as VP European Accounts Jerome Guerin will take over as Country Manager UK and Ireland. Axel Zuehlke, currently in charge of logistics and warehousing for Central Region is appointed Director European Logistics. (GER)


Popular Avery Dennison executive Bjarne Mindested is to leave the company’s OP division at the end of the year. Mindested – currently VP Central, Northern and Eastern Europe for Office Products Europe – is to take on the role of VP UK, Nordic Region and South Africa for Avery’s Information and Brand Management Division, a move which will see him switch to the company’s apparel tags business. Harald Nuij is to take on the role of Sales Director Benelux at European EOS distributor Alpha International. Nuij – who was previously Marketing and Communications Manager – took up his new post on 1 October and is charged with expanding the company’s market leading position in the Benelux region. Nuij’s former marketing role is to be filled by Annemiek van den Eertwegh. Roland Fransen has also been named as the new Sales Manager Retail for the Benelux countries. (NL)




The Canadian Office Products Association (COPA) has appointed Sam Moncada as its new President. He will formally take on the President role on 3 November after a three-month search to find a successor to Joanne Young Evans who left suddenly in June. Moncada has spent the last 10 years in senior marketing and sales positions with HP Canada and prior to that spent five years as the Director of Product Line Marketing at wholesale distributor Azerty-Axidata. North American paper manufacturer Domtar has named John Williams as its new President and CEO to take over from Ray Royer who is retiring at the end of the year. Former President of SCA Packaging, Williams will relocate to Montreal from Brussels to take up his new post. (CAN)


Former Epson sales manager Dean Magrath recently joined Australian IT consumables distributor Tonnex as National Sales and Operations Manager. Magrath will oversee Tonnex’s sales and operations for its Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane locations. (AUS)
