Asia’s main event alive and kicking
Following a record number of visitors in 2007, Japan’s flagship ISOT show is gearing up for another bumper year.
Asia’s largest stationery and office products exhibition ISOT has reinvented itself over the last few years and 2007 saw a record 63,212 visitors and an impressive 900 exhibitors.
True, the show can no longer be described as a purely stationery and office products event – the show organisers have regularly added new mini-shows and expanded the product range in an attempt to attract more visitors and exhibitors – but diversification and looking for new niches is a fact of life in our industry today.
While caution has been expressed about the effects the of housing crisis and credit crunch on the Japanese market, a barometer of the OP market there is perhaps the record number of 240 entries – more than double last year’s total – for this year’s Stationery of the Year awards, indicating that innovation is alive and well.
OPI will be attending ISOT 2008, on the lookout for the latest trends in the world’s second biggest OP market and speaking to some of the influential national and international vendor and reseller players in this corner of the globe.
A show report will appear in September’s issue of OPI and regular updates from the event will be posted on www.opi.net.
