3M celebrates successful first quarter


18 April 2005 – St Paul (MN): First-quarter earnings at 3M rose 12 per cent thanks to stronger sales and improved productivity that managed to offset higher commodity prices and economic weakness overseas.

Net income increased to $809 million, or EPS of $1.03, from $722 million, or EPS of $0.90, a year ago. World-wide sales grew 4.6 per cent to $5.17 billion from $4.94 billion last year.
